What happens if I can't make my own healthcare decisions?

In the case where you become incapacitated, a durable power of attorney for healthcare can be used if drafted prior to becoming incapacitated. This power of attorney allows a trusted family member or friend to make medical care decisions in the event of incapacity. If a power of attorney has not been done then it will be necessary for family to ask the court to appoint someone make healthcare decisions.
